At 鶹Ƶ at Tuscarawas, Honors Program student Jackie Bennett is on an inspiring journey to turn her passion for education and love of learning into a rewarding career. With academic interests spanning mathematics, history and the broader field of education, she’s a standout example of dedication and ambition.
Currently a junior academically and a sophomore in her major, Bennett has her sights set on earning an Associate of Applied Science degree in Early Years Education and Care in Spring 2025, followed by a Bachelor of Science in Education degree in Early Childhood Education in Spring 2027. Along the way, she’s making impressive strides, earning the prestigious Honors Recognition Award and other scholarships that reflect her academic excellence and commitment to her studies.
This fall, Bennett is fully immersed in hands-on projects as part of her education classes.
“Currently, I'm working on many projects for my education classes,” she said. “This semester, I have an Environmental Review, a Reading to Children assignment, a writing journal to complete, and a one-week emergent investigation for preschool-age children.”
These projects highlight her ability to connect theory with practice, a skill that will serve her well in her future career as a math teacher for grades 3 through 5.
Bennett is part of the Honors Program at 鶹Ƶ Tuscarawas and a member of the prestigious National Collegiate Honors Council. This program offers academically talented students like her the opportunity to pursue an enriched educational experience, with all the benefits of the highly acclaimed 鶹Ƶ Honors Program.
The Honors Program prepares students to take on leadership roles at an early stage in their educational careers through a variety of academic opportunities, including the Freshman Honors Colloquium and study abroad experiences in Florence, Italy; Leicester, England; and Northern Ireland. With the resources of a world-class research institution, students can engage in creative research endeavors that deepen their learning and broaden their horizons.
The program also fosters a broad understanding of the arts and sciences, encourages excellence in academic and creative pursuits and instills a respect for cultural diversity. Through challenging courses and enriched educational experiences, students develop habits of inquiry, skills for lifelong learning and strategies for meaningful reflection.
Outside the classroom, Bennett enjoys diving into historical events, participating in color guard and spending quality time with friends and family. Her passion for history and her collaborative spirit enhance her ability to relate to others and bring diverse perspectives to her work.
