Cutting-Edge Equipment and Facility Upgrades Enhance Veterinary Technology Program

Thanks to the generous support of the Reeves Foundation and the Rosenberry Foundation, the ΒιΆΉΚΣΖ΅ College of Applied and Technical Studies (CATS) Veterinary Technology program at ΒιΆΉΚΣΖ΅ Tuscarawas has made significant advancements in its facilities and training resources. These upgrades provide students with hands-on experiences using state-of-the-art equipment, preparing them to deliver exceptional care for animals in their future careers.

Key equipment and laboratory additions include:

  • A horse head/neck model and horse limb model for mastering equine care techniques.
  • Four portable ultrasound probes, enabling students to practice advanced diagnostic procedures.
  • A grooming sink and expanded lab space, complete with a dog kennel for animal handling and care.

In addition to new equipment, the program is undergoing major renovations to its instructional spaces. The project involves combining the current lab with a former machine shop, creating a larger, more functional area. New installations include four kennel runs, an animal isolation unit, and dedicated storage for food and supplies. These changes not only enhance animal care but also align with the standards of modern veterinary facilities, ensuring students are well-prepared for clinical practicums and future employment.

Meeting Industry Standards and Expanding Opportunities

These improvements allow the program to accommodate more students while maintaining its commitment to humane care and hands-on learning. By segregating cats and dogs during lab activities, the new design eliminates animal care concerns and ensures a safe, ethical environment for training.

β€œWith these upgrades, our students are better equipped to succeed in a highly competitive field,” said Dr. Kimberly Huston, veterinary technology program director. β€œThe renovated facilities and advanced tools emulate real-world veterinary settings, giving students the skills and confidence they need to excel. We are very grateful for the support our local foundations provide our students and the vet tech program.”
