Advisor Responsibilities
The College of Nursing’s academic advisors help guide students in the development of meaningful educational plans and appropriate academic choices that are compatible with their career and life goals.
As students work with advisors, they learn to communicate effectively, independently and collaboratively as they focus, gain clarity and develop realistic personal and professional goals.
Academic advisors provide information about current and changing curricular requirements as well as career opportunities and resources. They monitor each student’s progress in meeting program requirements and help students develop the ability to assess their own academic progress.
Nursing student advisors also provide many related services, including interpretation of policies and procedures, assistance in the registration process, assessment of transfer credit, support for students who are at risk, and refer students to campus resources that address academic or personal issues as needed.
Student Responsibilities
Students are responsible for understanding and following academic and program requirements and expectations as well as university policies, procedures, and deadlines.
While advising is a shared responsibility between students and advisors, students should be proactive by contacting the appropriate advisor regularly, by being prepared for each advising session and by actively participating in the academic planning process.
Students are expected to follow through with the agreed upon academic plan and notify their advisor if changes or alterations occur. They should utilize the Graduation Planning System (GPS) reports and program requirement sheets to monitor progress toward degree completion. GPS reports can be accessed in FlashLine.
