Kent, Ohio 鈥 Beginning this fall, the 麻豆视频 Glauser School of Music will welcome Jasmine Hines to the music education department as an assistant professor. Her appointment in the newly created position follows a rigorous national search with a specialty in choral music education.
鈥淚鈥檓 delighted to welcome Jasmine to the School of Music,鈥 said Kent McWilliams, director of the Glauser School. 鈥淎s we continue to evaluate and reimagine our curriculum, her extensive experience as a choral music educator and research focus on Critical Race Theory and Black Feminist Thought within music education is critical to reshaping our degree offerings for the 21st century.鈥
Hines is nearing the completion of her Ph.D. in music education from the University of Florida, where she already holds a master鈥檚 degree. She completed her undergraduate studies in choral music education at Georgia Southern University. Spanning both Georgia and Florida, her teaching experience includes elementary choral and general music in Georgia as well as being a research and teaching assistant at the University of Florida. From 2016 to 2019, she also served as choral and musical director and diversity awareness coordinator of Resilience Charter School in Gainesville, Florida. An active researcher, she has presented at the International Symposium on the Sociology of Music Education, Mountain Lake Colloquium, and the International Symposium for Assessment in Music Education.
