Jay Dorfman Publishes Second Edition of Book Focused on Technology-based Music Teaching
On January 14, 2022, the second edition of the “Theory and Practice of Technology-Based Music Instruction” was released in print and electronic forms. The book, authored by Glauser School of Music faculty member Jay Dorfman, Ph.D., was first published in 2013 and focuses on helping educators develop a theoretical and practical foundation for teaching students to use technology to cultivate their musicianship. Dorfman’s 2022 version expands on the first’s concepts, delving more deeply into lessons learned during the Covid-19 pandemic, equity and social justice issues with music education technology, and the experiences of diverse teachers in the classroom.
"This second edition accounts for the changes in technology that we all know occur over time," said Dorfman, associate professor and music education coordinator. "More important, however, is that it addresses some ways that education and society have changed since the first edition. I hope that music teachers and those who will be music teachers find it useful."
It's available as a Kindle ebook and in print through . Oxford University Press publishes the book with a foreword by University of Southern California Thornton School of Music Scholar in Residence, Peter R. Webster.
