Started in 1994, the (GHC) was named after . The conference spans several days and includes inspiring keynote talks, parallel technical panels, and numerous networking opportunities. Speakers come from academia, industry, and government, and a Career Fair provides opportunities for students to find job opportunities and internships.
The conference has experience phenomenal growth in recent years. The 2008 and 2009 conferences had around 1500 attendees, but in 2010 the conference grew to 2147 attendees. Then it grew further in 2011 to 2890 attendees -- a staggering 24.6% growth! This year the attendance is expected to grow yet again to approximately 3600 attendees.
