Dr. Mariann Harding is dedicated to educating the next generation of nurses. The 鶹Ƶ at Tuscarawas nursing professor served on the editing team of the 10th edition of the award-winning book, Medical-Surgical Nursing: Assessment and Management of Clinical Problems. Harding wrote four chapters for the book, including “Professional Nursing Practice” and “Fluid, Electrolyte, and Acid-Base Imbalance” and was section editor for ten chapters. The book was recently named a 2017 book of the year winner by the American Journal of Nursing (AJN). AJN, a leading voice of nursing since 1900, honors exceptional texts for advancing healthcare quality.
“This award represents the commitment of a great team to educating the next generation of nurses. Every sentence we wrote, every decision we made about what to include in the book, was made with the goal of giving nursing students the information they need to enter practice,” said Harding.
The book is known for its accurate and up-to-date coverage of the latest trends, hot topics, and clinical developments in the field of medical-surgical nursing. Practices described in the book are considered the standard of care common to the nursing profession by which the quality of nursing practice is judged. Entering its eleventh edition, Medical-Surgical Nursing is one of the best-selling nursing books worldwide and has been adapted and translated for several countries.
In 2016, Elsevier, a world-leading provider of scientific, technical and medical information products and services, named Harding the lead editor of Medical-Surgical Nursing: Assessment and Management of Clinical Problems for the eleventh edition.
“Dr. Harding is an invaluable addition to this book,” said Jamie Blum, Content Strategist, Elsevier Education. “Equipping nurses with the most accurate and updated information is of paramount importance when it comes to delivering direct patient care. Dr. Harding grasps the overwhelming demands that students and nurse educators face, and she has a gift for presenting difficult content in a manner that is effective and meaningful.”
