Concentrations

Although students do not need to declare a concentration, those with specific career paths in mind may be interested in the concentrations offered at KSU. If you have any questions about the purpose or coursework of the psychology concentrations, don’t hesitate to reach out to a member of the Psychology advising team. 

Child Psychology 

This concentration is designed for students who are interested specifically in children and adolescents. Topics include: child development, psychological disorders of childhood and adolescence, children’s cognitive processes, personality development, and child-related research experience. 
This concentration prepares students for graduate study and employment in a range of fields including: clinical psychology, school psychology, school counseling, and other fields relating to children and child development. 

This concentration is available to both BA and BS students. 

Counseling Careers 

This concentration is designed to prepare students for employment in a range of fields and for master’s-level graduate study. Topics include: human adjustment, stress and coping, human development, personality, psychological disorders, treatment and intervention techniques, psychometrics, psychopharmacology, and clinical or counseling-related research experience. 

This concentration is available to students in the BA program. 

Pre-Medicine/Pre-Podiatry 

This concentration prepares students for graduate study in medicine or podiatry and covers the requirements necessary to prepare students to take the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) as well as meet the prerequisites required for applying to medical school. 

This concentration is available to students in the BS program. 

No Concentration 

Concentrations are not necessary for the psychology major and students should not feel pressured to add one if they are not interested in the above areas. The no concentration option is suitable for students who want to keep their options open after graduation or tailor their major to their specific interests. 

This option is available to both BA and BS students.
