Cuyahoga Falls, OH - Porthouse Theatre, Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s outdoor, summer theatre located on the grounds of Blossom Music Center, continues its 46th season with Starmites opening on July 4, 2014. Performances run through July 19. A preview performance will take place on July 3.
Directed by Â鶹ÊÓƵ alumnus Michael McIntosh ’00 BFA, ’05 MFA, Starmites is a high-energy adventure fantasy in which humans and heroes discover love, loyalty, inner strength and a great doo-wop beat as they conquer the sinister inhabitants of Innerspace. Follow teenager Eleanor as she escapes into the world of her beloved comic books and discovers that the stories she loves may not just be stories after all. Critically acclaimed and nominated for six Tony Awards when it debuted on Broadway in 1989, Starmites was written by Barry Keating and Stuart Ross. Performances are July 3, 4, 5, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 15, 16, 17, 18, and 19 at 8pm; July 6 and 13 at 2pm.
The production stars Actors Equity Association member Colleen Longshaw as Diva/Eleanor’s Mother. The cast is comprised of Porthouse Theatre’s Young Professional Company: Lucy Anders, Jessica Nicole Benson, Mackenzie Duan ’14 BFA, Grace Falasco ’14 BFA, Miriam Henkel-Moellmann ’11 BFA, Daniel Lindenberger ’10 BFA, Elliott Litherland, Darian Lunsford, Dylan Ratell ’14 BFA, and Christopher D. Tuck.
Starmites is choreographed by School of Theatre and Dance Assistant Professor Amy Fritsche and music directed by School of Theatre and Dance Assistant Professor Jennifer Korecki. Costume design is by Susan Williams, lighting design is by Carly Shiner ’13 BFA, scene design is by School of Theatre and Dance Associate Professor and Technical Director Steve Pauna ’00 MFA, sound design is by Brian Chismar ’13 MFA and technical direction is by Ryan T. Patterson. Stage Manager is Joshua Brown ’14 BFA. Actors Equity Production Stage Manager is Derric Nolte.
