Sexual and Relationship Violence Support Services Year in Review 17-18

The Sexual and Relationship Violence Support Services office (SRVSS) had a year of growth and success.  Thirty new faculty and staff members were trained last July as Green Dot educators, we had over 2,000 hours of volunteer time from our student interns and we saw record numbers in students and employees participating in Green Dot education. We had 2,180 students attend an overview of Green Dot, and 213 students go through a bystander skill workshop. Additionally, 102 faculty and staff members participated in Green Dot for faculty and staff.

Our staff grew as well. We welcomed Yvette Roberts to our team and DEI family. Yvette started in March as our support services coordinator. In her role, she provides advocacy and support for any student, staff or faculty member impacted by power-based personal violence.  Yvette comes to us with over 15 years of experience in social services as well as working at a community domestic violence shelter.

With the growth of SRVSS in the last year, we are excited for the 2018-2019 academic year. We will be expanding our Green Dot workshop for faculty and staff to be included in the human resource professional development workshop offerings. We are also continuing our exploration of healthy masculinity and will be hosting a series of community conversations around the topic. Finally, we will be collaborating with Linda Hoeptner-Poling, associate professor in the College of the Arts, again this year to provide a series of workshops for survivors to provide self-expression in healing through art.
