Step Up and Speak Out Goes Mobile

Mental health issues are an increasing concern on college campuses across the country, with faculty and staff often a resource for students to turn to in difficult situations. In 2013, Step Up & Speak Out was created to assist university community members in understanding the resources available to assist distressed or disruptive individuals.

To ensure convenient access, and provide the most up-to-date information, Step Up & Speak Out was recently integrated into the KSUMobile app. As a result, the stand-alone Step Up & Speak Out app has been discontinued.

Cockeye Creamery Raises Money for the Trumbull Campus Care Closet

From now through Sunday, Sept. 19, Cockeye Creamery, located at 1805 1/2, Parkman Rd NW in Warren, will be serving its 鶹Ƶ-inspired ice cream “Black Squirrel” to raise money for 鶹Ƶ at Trumbull's Care Closet.

鶹Ƶ alumnus, Max Hoover, owner of Cockeye Creamery created the flavor to pay homage to 鶹Ƶ’s unofficial mascot – the black squirrel. It is a combination of espresso ice cream, caramel streak, and cinnamon streusel.

Hoover is generously donating 15 percent of Black Squirrel proceeds to 鶹Ƶ Trumbull's Care Closet.

Earlier this summer, Hoover ran a similar campaign that benefited The Campus Kitchen at 鶹Ƶ, which provides nutritious food and meals each week for students and Portage County community members struggling with food insecurity. In just a week, he sold over 20 gallons.

"Giving back to the community is important to and my family and me," Hoover said. "Some students are struggling to work, care of their families, take classes, and study, so it's nice to do something that may ease their burden."

鶹Ƶ Trumbull's Care Closet is set to open this fall. It was created by the 2020-2021 Undergraduate Student Government. The Care Closet provides food, personal items, and casual and professional clothing to students in need.

Additional donations can be made to the Care Closet,  and choose “Flash's Food Pantry.”
