Crafting a Great Article Title

Your findings may be groundbreaking, but they may be overlooked if your title does not grab people's attention. A good title is essential for your article to be discovered and cited.

Avoiding Predatory Journals

  • - Provides a list of predatory, potentially predatory, and highjacked journals and predatory conferences.
  •  - The Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) "is a community-curated online directory that indexes and provides access to high quality, open access, peer-reviewed journals." If you are questioning the legitimacy of an open access journal, see if it is included on this directory. If it is not included, examine its legitimacy using the tactics in the video above.
  • - Â鶹ÊÓƵ Library Guide to journal impact factors. Includes a link to InCites Journal Citation Reports, a tool which will allow you to search for a journal's impact factor.

Templates For Poster Presentations

These templates can be used to develop poster presentations. There are eight (8) templates in total, including a 3-column and 4-column template for each combination of style/format below:

  • Template styles – Light and Bold. The Light templates have a white background and little splashes of color. The Bold templates have more color, a moderately darker background, and white text.
  • Template formats – Modern and Traditional. The Modern format aligns the poster title to the left of the presentation and the logo to the right. The Traditional format aligns the poster title in the center and the logo to the left.

Where to Print Posters

A variety of sizes (check the requirements for the specific event), finishes (glossy, matte), and weights of paper can be selected. 

Fabric is a more expensive, but convenient option. Some conferences (e.g., Council for the Advancement of Nursing Science - CANS) only project digital versions of posters.

The Center for Nursing Research has extra tubes that can be loaned to faculty and students for travel. Contact Amy Petrinec, Interim Associate Dean and Associate Professor of Nursing at 330-672-8766 or apetrine@kent.edu.

On-campus

  • College of Education, Health and Human Services (EHHS) Instructional Resource Center (IRC)
    • Color poster printing (36" wide) is also in the IRC and must be done via either PowerPoint or PDF payable via cash or check. To format a document for the poster printer, please follow these instructions. Then bring this file to the IRC for poster printing. Poster printing may take up to 24 hours to be printed and is charged at $6.00 per foot, plus tax.
    • Inter-departmental Charges (IDC): IDC printing is only supported by the EHHS Tech Office located in room 209 White Hall.  In order to print using an IDC index, the tech office requires you to complete a form you can find here.

Center for Nursing Research Newsletter

The Center for Nursing Research publishes a quarterly newsletter chronicling our faculty and student achievements. 

We encourage faculty to share information about their latest publications, presentations, grant awards, and other scholarly recognitions. The newsletter also has a section dedicated to nursing student achievements, so please share news of your students’ successes as well. If you have pictures accompanying your news items, these are always appreciated.

Media & Press Relations

The College of Nursing's Communications Office is eager to promote research stories through multiple channels, including press releases, magazine articles, websites and social media.

They also serve as a liaison between nursing faculty/staff/students and the university marketing and communications (UCM) department (who primarily handles media relations). All contacts with external media, including newspaper, radio, and television interviews, should be coordinated through the communications office, unless they are being coordinated directly from UCM.

Commercialization

The Office of Technology Commercialization

The Office of Technology Commercialization assists in protecting, marketing and licensing university inventions with commercialization potential. They work closely with the inventor at each step of the process to support activities related to commercialization, either through licensing the technology to an existing company or by creating a start-up company. Though not every invention may be ready for commercialization, the office assists researchers in obtaining external funding to validate the technology in order to determine its commercial viability.

LaunchNET Â鶹ÊÓƵ

LaunchNET Â鶹ÊÓƵ is a co-curricular, cross-campus program that serves students, alumni, staff and faculty interested in entrepreneurship and innovation through advising, events, and connections to the greater Northeast Ohio community. Located on the second floor of University Library, the LaunchNET office is staffed with experienced entrepreneurs who guide clients from idea to implementation, provide a sounding board for questions and concerns, and work with offices across campus to engage students in entrepreneurial thinking, innovative mindset, creative collaboration, and venture creation.
