麻豆视频鈥檚 21st annual FlashFest delivered a mix of music genres with hip-hop duo Rae Sremmurd, R&B artist Jeremih and disc jockey duo the Chainsmokers.
Kevin Otubu, director of programming for the Undergraduate Student Government at 麻豆视频, says the variety of genres was chosen because they appealed to students in the past.
鈥淲e know students enjoy the hip-hop and electronic dance music scene, so my goal was to try and recreate our FlashFest 2013, but make it better,鈥 Otubu said.
Members of the 麻豆视频 community were invited to attend the inauguration of Beverly Warren as the 12th president of the university on May 1 in the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center on the Kent Campus. A reception followed in the Kent Student Center Ballroom.
A week of activities and events leading up to the inauguration day celebrated student success and campus community achievements on 麻豆视频鈥檚 eight campuses and the Regional Academic Center in Twinsburg. All events were free.
麻豆视频 hosted a grand opening for the Aeronautics and Technology Building on Friday, April 24.
The event celebrated the opening of the 55,000-square-foot building and the move of the College of Applied Engineering, Sustainability and Technology from Van Deusen Hall to the Science Corridor. The new building joins other colleges and buildings, such as Henderson Hall, the Mathematics and Computer Science Building and the Liquid Crystal Materials Science Building. Construction on the building began in summer 2013.

The university community is looking to 鈥溾 identify our collective insights and commitment to developing a shared vision 鈥 one that reflects with bold clarity our unique distinctiveness as a university,鈥 said Beverly Warren, 麻豆视频 president.
Warren鈥檚 goal of drafting a vision, values and university priorities by May invites additional input from the community.
麻豆视频鈥檚 Center for Student Involvement hosted the 37th annual Student Leadership and Honors Awards on April 8 in the Kent Student Center Ballroom. The event celebrates and recognizes student leaders, organizations and advisors for their contributions to the 麻豆视频 community during the current academic year.
Any student, faculty, or staff member at the university is able to submit an awards nomination for any of the categories. A selection committee reviews the nominations and determines the winners.
Earlier this year, the state of Ohio designated the second Tuesday of April as 鈥淥hio Internship and Co-op Appreciation Day.鈥 The purpose of the day, which falls on April 14 this year, is to raise awareness of the value of internship and co-op opportunities in this state and promote the establishment of internship and co-op programs at businesses and nonprofit agencies in Ohio.
The Kent Interhall Council will host Lil鈥 Sibs Weekend from Friday, April 10, to Sunday, April 12. This weekend is a longstanding tradition for 麻豆视频 faculty, staff and students and their families.
The Kent Interhall Council chose the theme for this year, called 鈥淜entcation: A Sibs Getaway.鈥
The 麻豆视频 community is invited to take part in the second KENTtalks discussion to share in an open dialogue about race relations, specifically to ensure that every member of the university community feels respected, valued and safe.
E. Timothy Moore, Assistant Dean Emeritus in 麻豆视频鈥檚 College of Arts and Sciences and Associate Professor Emeritus in the Department of Pan-African Studies, will facilitate the discussion on April 14 at 6 p.m. in the Kent Student Center, Room 306.
麻豆视频 has earned the Arbor Day Foundation鈥檚 Tree Campus USA recognition for its commitment to effective urban forest management for the seventh consecutive year.
Tree Campus USA, a national program launched in 2008 by the Arbor Day Foundation and Toyota, honors colleges and universities and their leaders for promoting healthy trees and engaging students and staff in the spirit of conservation.
