The "Ask Me" button campaign has been a tremendous success since it began in 2010. Both incoming freshmen and their parents were impressed with the warm and welcoming environment that the buttons promoted.
In 2010, Â鶹ÊÓƵ President Lester A. Lefton saw a clear need as students began to arrive on campus. Because new students have many more questions than answers, Lefton enlisted the campus community to welcome its newest members by wearing the "Ask Me" button, and becoming an on-the-spot source of information. Lefton understands that today's students -- while accustomed to the benefits of ever-present technology – can still benefit from a human connection as they began their college journey.
The "Ask Me" button campaign has been a tremendous success since it began in 2010. Both incoming freshmen and their parents were impressed with the warm and welcoming environment that the buttons promoted. One student remarked that she was nervous to approach staff members, but after seeing the "Ask Me" button, felt that these were people committed to helping her. Another parent commented that after seeing the high level of customer service present at Â鶹ÊÓƵ, she felt confident and comfortable that her child would be in good hands. This is the spirit of a distinctive Â鶹ÊÓƵ!
"Ask Me" Stakeholder Roles Explained
Staff and Administration
Â鶹ÊÓƵ employs more than 2,000 full-time, part-time and temporary staff members. This incredible force of individuals oversees hundreds of offices and units across all eight Â鶹ÊÓƵ campuses. As our incoming freshmen and parents arrive this fall, it is everyone's responsibility to ensure that the new Golden Flashes feel welcomed. The "Ask Me" button identifies Â鶹ÊÓƵ employees who are able to help new students. Make sure you have a button to wear for the beginning of the new semester. Remember, everyone is a stakeholder in ensuring student success through helping others.
Incoming Students
Beginning college is an exciting time, especially now that you are here at Â鶹ÊÓƵ! As you step onto campus this fall, you undoubtedly will have many questions. Where is your first class? When does the Student Recreation and Wellness Center close? How do you find out how much money is left on your FLASHcard? Regardless of the question, remember, plenty of people are wearing and displaying "Ask Me" buttons, and they are ready to help you. Whether they are professors, staff members or students, there is no shortage of individuals who will help you find the answers you need.
Parents
Transitioning to college is a big step for students -- and it can be an equally large transition for parents. As your child begins his or her college journey, you are beginning a journey of your own. You can feel comfortable knowing that there are many people at Â鶹ÊÓƵ ready to help your son or daughter. These same people are eager to help you as well. Whatever you are helping your son or daughter do, you can turn to students, faculty and staff wearing "Ask Me" buttons for answers to any question you may have.
Student Leaders
It wasn't all that long ago when you were beginning your first day at Â鶹ÊÓƵ. As a new Â鶹ÊÓƵ student, you probably had many questions. Now it is your turn to provide the answers. Whether you are a member of a student organization, a student worker or a resident assistant, every student leader has a role to play in ensuring the next generation of Â鶹ÊÓƵ students has an easy transition to college. Be a proud representative of Â鶹ÊÓƵ by wearing your "Ask Me" button so that during Welcome Weekend, incoming freshmen will recognize you as someone who can help them. Become a distinct example of Â鶹ÊÓƵ.
Faculty
Every year you welcome new students into your classroom. Now, you can take that welcoming spirit one step further, as your students begin their educational journey, by wearing the "Ask Me" button. The "Ask Me" button allows students and parents to identify university faculty, like you, along with staff members and student leaders who are able to answer their questions. Everyone is a stakeholder in the success of Â鶹ÊÓƵ and its students. Be sure to wear your "Ask Me" button this fall and show your commitment to an undeniably Â鶹ÊÓƵ experience.
