Services provided at Area Desks include the following:

  • Visitor Parking Permits: Guest parking passes are no longer distributed through the area desks. Please visit /parking/mobile-payments-passport for information about guest parking.
  • ReADY Work Request (requests for repairs in room or public areas)
    • FlashTrack is a self-service work order system that students can enter all maintenance requests and services. For students living in a Residence Hall, maintenance requests can be submitted through the ReADY Work Request website: /housing/maintenance-and-technology-requests for any non-emergency repairs. For emergency repairs, contact your residence hall’s area desk.
  • Cart Check-Out
    • Each area desk has a limited number of carts that can be borrowed for up to one hour during move-in, move-out, and during room changes (if available). Residence hall students who would like to borrow a cart must follow the terms of use to ensure that it is returned and available for use by other students.
    • Anyone checking out a cart must: be a residence hall student and provide the desk with a cell phone number. This information must be provided when the item is checked out. The Area Desk staff will record this information at the time of checkout.. The student checking out the cart is responsible for its return and is not permitted to transfer it to another person.

After one hour, the cart should be returned to the Area Desk, so other residents may use it. In the event, the student would like to use the cart for a second time they will need to repeat the process. If the cart is not returned within the designated time, the Area Desk staff will contact the cell phone number provided. If the cart is not returned after the call is made, there will be a $10 per hour late fee assessed (late fee will not to exceed the replacement cost of the cart). If the cart is not returned, the cart replacement fee ($110) may be charged to the student’s account.

  • Lock-out/Temporary Key Card: A resident may obtain a temporary key from the area desk assigned to their hall.  The following policies apply:
    • Residence hall key cards may not be duplicated, transferred or given to any other individual.
    • A resident may obtain a temporary key from the area desk assigned to their hall.
    • A temporary key must be returned by the resident responsible for the key checkout. This key is for your use only and cannot be transferred to any other individual.
    • Each resident is allowed four (4) lock out incidents per academic year without charge (defined as the first day of classes in fall semester to the official move-out date in spring semester). Beginning with the fifth lock out incident, the student will be assessed a $5 charge for that and each successive lockout. This charge will be billed to their Bursar's account.
      • If the area desk is closed and a University Housing staff member has to be contacted to assist a locked-out resident in gaining access to their room, the incident will be documented and reported to the Area Desk. The incident will be counted as a lock out.
  • Policies for halls using the FLASHcard for access:
    • A temporary key for a Lost, Broken, Stolen, Not Working and Room/Hall Change must be returned to the area desk by 5:00 p.m. the next business day after the day of the key checkout. This is to allow the resident time to get their FLASHcard replaced or their new room access to take effect.
    • All temporary keys are due back by 9:00 p.m. every day. Failure to return by the due date will result in a $25 fee to the student’s Bursars account.
  • Lost & Found: Occasionally items may be turned in to the area desk, which may have been lost by their owner. The area desk will try to identify and contact the owner.
    • If the owner has been contacted, the desk will only hold the item for 24 hours. If the owner does not claim the item within 24 hours after being contacted, then the item may be turned in to the safety office (Tri-Towers).
    • If the owner cannot be identified or contacted within 24 hours, the item may be turned in to the safety office (Tri-Towers).
