Events

The School of Communication Studies offers a number of events for students, alumni, faculty, staff and the community to enhance their knowledge, network with one another and celebrate achievements.

Hyde Park Forum

Each spring, the Hyde Park Forum showcases the persuasive speaking skills of students enrolled in the Introduction to Human Communication course. Speeches on topical subjects are presented before an audience of peers, family and faculty. The students presenting compete for scholarships and a People’s Choice Award.

L. LeRoy Cowperthwaite Communication Lecture Series

Created in 1984 to honor the service of Dr. L. LeRoy Cowperthwaite, Director of the Â鶹ÊÓƵ School of Speech from 1954 to 1983, The L. LeRoy Cowperthwaite Communication Lecture Series is an opportunity for graduate students to meet a renowned communication scholar. The School of Communication studies invites a scholar to campus for a one-week visit to present the Cowperthwaite Lecture and teach a graduate seminar in his/her area of expertise. Homecoming/Centennial Award Celebration

Each year alumni, faculty, staff, students and guests gather to recognize alumni and peers for their contributions to the field of communication, reconnect to the school and network with colleagues. Three awards are given out: the Centennial Award, the Distinguished Alumni Award and the Outstanding Young Professional. 

Lambda Pi Eta Induction Ceremony and Presentation of Scholarships

The achievements of undergraduates are highlighted during a spring semester reception that recognizes inductees into Lambda Pi Eta, recipients of scholarships and awards and the officers of Lambda Pi Eta and Kent Communication Society.

Student Reception

Held during the spring semester, the achievements of undergraduate and graduate students are recognized with a presentation of awards and scholarships.
