REU Application - Summer 2025
EXTERNAL STUDENTS
Eligibility:
To be eligible for the NSF-funded REU program, you must be a US citizen or permanent resident.
Students should be 18 or older by the start of the program.
Students should have an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Deadline:
Review of applications will begin March 1st and will continue until all positions are filled.
Application:
The application material is submitted online. To fill out the application form, you will need the following information:
- Courses and grades
- Names and email addresses of two professors providing a letter of recommendation
- Names of three Kent REU professors your are most interested in working with (please visit the Projects page)
The letters of recommendation and an academic transcript (official or unofficial) must be forwarded to:

KENT STATE UNIVERSITY STUDENTS
Eligibility:
To be eligible for the KSU-funded Summer Research Experience, you must be a KSU student in good standing. There is no citizenship requirement for this program.
Students should be 18 or older by the start of the program.
Students should have an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Mentors:
Students can choose any KSU Chemistry and Biochemistry or Advanced Materials & Liquid Crystal Institute faculty member as a mentor for their summer research project. You should contact the respective faculty member prior to your application. Faculty members from other departments may be allowed to mentor REU participants if it fits the scope of the overall program. Please contact Dr. Hegmann or Dr. Tubergen to obtain permission.
Housing:
Funds are limited and therefore, financial assistance for housing cannot be provided for KSU students (main campus).
