Laurie Bentley
Biography
Professor Laurie Bentley received a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from Hiram College and went on to pursue a Master of Arts in Communication Studies at Â鶹ÊÓƵ. Her studies focused on interpersonal and rhetorical communication and led to her thesis An Exploration of Gender Portrayals in Caldecott Medal Winning Children's Books.
Professor Bentley teaches classes in Communication Studies including courses in Intercultural Communication, Gender and Communication, Small Group Communication,Criticism of Public Discourse, High Impact Professional Speaking, as well as Introduction to Human Communication. In addition to teaching courses in Communication Studies, she teaches courses in Journalism and Mass Communication including Media, Power and Culture.
As a complement to her teaching at the Â鶹ÊÓƵ at Ashtabula campus, Professor Bentley is also on the adjunct faculty at Hiram College in the Communication department. Her teaching there focuses on interpersonal communication and rhetoric. Additionally, she leads workshops for the Weekend College at Hiram College in small group communication, listening, nonverbal communication, teamwork, as well as a workshop in media, gender, and culture.
