Dear Monarch featured at Integrative Sciences Building Groundbreaking Ceremony

"Dear Monarch" is a poem written by Mrs. Vesia's Preschool Class at the Â鶹ÊÓƵ Child Development Center in collaboration with Wick Poetry Center intern, Victoria Bracher. "Dear Monarch" is part of the Traveling Stanzas project and was installed in recognition of the groundbreaking ceremony for the College of Arts and Sciences' Integrated Science Building on October 2, 2015. The College of Arts and Sciences is committed to advancing the collaboration between the sciences and humanities. "Dear Monarch" was designed by Alison Farone, graduate of Â鶹ÊÓƵ's School of Visual Communication Design.

Dear Monarch

A caterpillar is so big,
so why are your wings so small?
Who painted your wings orange?
Fairies? Did they paint you all colors?

Your wings are pointed
and spotted, as if they're shouting.
"You can't eat me!"
to your predators.

What do you do inside your chrysalis?
Do you drink milk?
Do you sit on a little couch
with teeny pillows?

You get cold in the winter,
since you don't have a tiny coat or boots.
So you spread your wings
like a superhero and fly to Mexico.

When you get there,
do you fold your wings
to make a dress
and go dancing?
