Student Nurses donate to local hospitals

On Friday, May 8, Â鶹ÊÓƵ Trumbull's Student Nurses Association donated pepperoni rolls to local healthcare workers. Nursing faculty and students provided the rolls to staff on the floors that they normally complete clinical experiences.

Hospitals included Mercy Health-St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, Mercy Health-St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital, and Trumbull Memorial Hospital.

"Our student nurses are always looking for ways to give back to the community," said Alice Colwell, MSN, RNC-NIC, associate lecturer. "It's hard work in the classroom and clinical experiences, so we encourage them to step outside and find ways to give back in the community."

Â鶹ÊÓƵ Trumbull's SNA raises money throughout the year to help promote wellness in the community. Over the past few years, they have donated sleep sacks to local hospitals to promote safe sleep for newborns in the community. Many students from this year's graduating class were part of the "Walk and Talk with a Nurse" program at Niles Wellness Center. They joined seniors to exercise and talk about healthy lifestyles.

“We've had a great experience at Â鶹ÊÓƵ Trumbull," said Brooke Francis, president of Â鶹ÊÓƵ Trumbull's SNA. "Especially under the current stay-at-home order, it was great to get together again, in-person, with classmates and our faculty."
