鶹Ƶ Stark Receives Nearly $600,000 in Grant Funding

Recent grants awarded to 鶹Ƶ at Stark in Jackson Township will help further College Credit Plus programs, health care, education of teachers, add degree programs and offer a new cultural arts opportunity in our community.

  • 鶹Ƶ Stark College Credit Plus Consortium - $498,442 to provide high school teachers with College Credit Plus credentials.
    • A. Bathi Kasturiarachi, Ph.D., Ohio Department of Education/Ohio Department of Higher Education, College Credit Plus Teacher Credentialing Grant, “Kent-Stark College Credit Plus Consortium,” in partnership with the Stark County Educational Service Center.
       
  • 鶹Ƶ Stark Guitar Weekend - $3,500 to present a cultural arts guitar event to educate and entertain the community.
    • Adam Larison, D.M.A., ArtsinStark, Special Project Grant, “鶹Ƶ Guitar Weekend.” 
       
  • Models of Foraminiferans - $1,000 to purchase models of fossilized organisms to teach geology students how to identify fossil forms and interpret the ecology and paleoecology of rocks and sediments.
    • Carrie Schweitzer, Ph.D., The Teaching Council of 鶹Ƶ, “Models of Foraminiferans.”
       
  • 鶹Ƶ Stark Nursing Program - $38,369 to purchase a high-fidelity, nursing simulation mannequin to enhance the students’ knowledge of patient care and outcomes and ease the transition from the classroom to clinical experiences.
    • Deb Shelestak, R.N., Ph.D., Stark Community Foundation, “Enhancing Teaching and Learning in the 鶹Ƶ at Stark Nursing Program and Improving Health Care in Stark County.”
       
  • Middle Childhood Education - $41,150 to develop a 鶹Ƶ dual license degree in middle childhood education and special education. Once completed, it will be the first degree program of its kind in Ohio.
    • Lori Wilfong, Ph.D., Subaward University of Dayton Research Institute/Ohio Department of Education/U.S. Department of Education, Ohio Deans Compact on Exceptional Children Support for Incentive Grant Implementation Plan, with Principal Investigator Dr. Brian Barber and co-Principal Investigators Drs. Pena Bedesem and Andrew Wiley, FY2016.
