Minor in French

Â鶹ÊÓƵ's Minor in French offers students the opportunity to develop language skills and cultural understanding of Francophone regions. The program focuses on building proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing French while exploring literature, history, and contemporary issues related to French-speaking cultures. This minor complements a wide range of majors, enhancing students' global perspective and communication skills, and preparing them for careers in fields such as education, international relations, business, and translation. Program Learning Outcomes

Graduates of this program will be able to:

  1. Speak in French on topics ranging from personal to cultural and social issues.
  2. Write in French on a variety of situations and for multiple purposes.
  3. Read and comprehend various text types such as newspaper articles, short stories and web content with the aid of dictionaries and other resources.
  4. Exhibit a fundamental understanding of francophone culture.
Admissions for French - Minor

Admission Requirements

Admission to a minor is open to students declared in a bachelor’s degree, the A.A.B. or A.A.S. degree or the A.T.S. degree (not Individualized Program major). Students declared only in the A.A. or A.S. degree or the A.T.S. degree in Individualized Program may not declare a minor. Students may not pursue a minor and a major in the same discipline.

  • Minimum 6 credit hours in the minor must be upper-division coursework (30000 and 40000 level).
  • Minimum 6 credit hours in the minor must be outside of the course requirements for any major or other minor the student is pursuing.
  • Minimum 50 percent of the total credit hours for the minor must be taken at Â鶹ÊÓƵ (in residence).
