Call for faculty/staff to lead Alternative Fall Break Experience

Community Engaged Learning (CEL) is looking for faculty and staff to lead its Alternative Fall Break experience, "Understanding and Addressing Homelessness" in Cincinnati, from Thursday, Oct. 13 to Saturday, Oct. 15. Leader responsibilities include the following:

  • Co-leading a group of 11-12 students in educational, service and cultural activities with 1-2 other student/faculty/staff leaders
  • Serving as an administrative point of contact for Franciscan Ministries which is hosting and coordinating our groups’ experience
  • Facilitating thoughtful and intentional reflection sessions
  • Exploring social justice issues in partnership with host organizations 
  • Ensuring that university and programmatic policies and procedures are followed
  • Receiving a cash advance from the University to use throughout the program
  • May include driving a seven-passenger mini-van

In addition to the program commitments above, Alternative Break leadership also includes the following time commitments before and after Fall Break:

  • Attend pre-trip training on serving as a leader and implementing emergency protocol when needed (approximately 1-2 hours)
  • Assist in the facilitation of the “Pre-Trip Orientation” and "Post-Trip Meeting" for your program (approximately 2 hours)
  • Assist in a portion of the itinerary planning of your program, including meeting outside designated training with CEL staff and your student leader

Leaders will be selected by CEL Staff. Applicants may be asked to attend a brief meeting during the selection process. As a trip leader, CEL covers all your costs associated with the trip, and trains, prepares and works closely with the leadership team in advance of the experience.  Please submit your application by 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31!
