Mandy Munro-Stasiuk
Biography
I am a geomorphologist and applied remote sensing researcher. Most of my early work was on ancient and contemporary glacial landscapes in Canada, the USA and Iceland, and in particular on subglacial meltwater processes. I study these landscapes through their geomorphology and sedimentology, and I use satellite imagery and ground penetrating radar as my tools. More recently, using the same methods and tools, I have undertaken research in Yucatan, Mexico, on karst sinkholes and their use by the ancient Maya, and on the irrigation networks built by the Khmer Rouge in the 1970's and early 1980's in Cambodia. More recently, I have moved into administration, serving as the Chair of the Department of Geography, Associate Provost for Academic Affairs, Interim Senior Associate Provost for Academic Affairs, and now Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. I have led a number of initiatives at 鶹Ƶ centered on faculty and student success, including textbook affordability, improving faculty mentoring, faculty and executive leadership development, and preparing the university to be more “student-ready”. Being an only child, and a first-generation university student, I am a fierce advocate for student-ready initiatives and promote culture and belonging at every opportunity.
