What was an action step/resource you utilized as an Exploratory student?
鈥淚 met with a professor who teaches in the College of Communication & Information. In our meeting, I was able to learn about what type of classes and careers are paired with a major in Communication Studies. Being able to ask him questions and hear his knowledge on the department was so helpful. Shortly after this meeting, I chose to declare my minor in Communications Studies!鈥

What was an action step/resource you utilized as an Exploratory student?
鈥淔rom utilizing the 鈥淲hat Can I Do With This Major?鈥 website, my perspective on choosing a major shifted. Each major I looked at had so many different pathways I could go! This helped me so much as an exploratory student because I was worried about being stuck in one kind of job if I pick that one corresponding major. But from this website, I learned that the major I declared could be so versatile and utilized in so many ways and environments.鈥

Major: Marketing Minor: Public Relations

What was an action step/resource you utilized as an Exploratory student?
鈥淚 took an introductory class for all the majors that I was interested in. Those intro courses allowed me to test out different majors and really find the right fit for me. Also, some of the intro courses that I took counted towards my Kent Core credits. So, I was taking the time to really pick my right major while also getting the credits I needed and not falling behind. I am so grateful to have had that time to test out majors and when I took the intro course for my, now decided, major I was confident and knew that it was the right major for me.鈥

Major: Psychology and Sociology

What was an action step/resource you utilized as an Exploratory student?
鈥淚 had an interest in Psychology but didn鈥檛 know where to start. I used the University Catalog to find that there are several different choices when it comes to Psychology, which led me to learning about the child psychology concentration. From there, I discovered my second major (Sociology) and my minor (Health, Society, & Medicine), which I wouldn鈥檛 have otherwise known existed without the catalog. I also found that my majors and minor include similar classes and complement each other well. Overall, the catalog helped me learn about my options and choose what was best for me!鈥

Major: Zoology Minor: Spanish

What was an action step/resource you utilized as an Exploratory student?
鈥淲hen I was exploratory, one action step from my Major Action Plan was meeting with academic advisors from the colleges I was interested in. When I met with these advisors, this helped me a lot in my journey to declaring a major. Sometimes after speaking to the representatives of these colleges, I realized that some of the majors I was originally interested in weren鈥檛 actually for me, and vice versa. Meeting with advisors and staff from the colleges you鈥檙e interested in is so important because this can really help narrow down your final major decision.鈥

Major: Public Relations Minor: Peace & Conflict Studies

What was an action step/resource you utilized as an Exploratory student?
鈥淥ne action step I took to further my career exploration was getting an internship in an area of interest. I realized that there was only so much information I was getting from certain courses, and I wanted to get a real feel of where I could see myself. So, since I was considering PR and by the end of the year marketing, I went ahead and interned at a nonprofit as a marketing intern. From there, I watched professionals work in the field I saw myself in and helped them with daily tasks. In the end, I gained experience and more knowledge on the two fields. I can now confidently say that I have a strong idea of what I want my career to be.鈥

Major: Communication Studies (General)

What was an action step/resource you utilized as an Exploratory student?
鈥淪peaking to friends, family, and KSU staff was very helpful in my career/major search because I was able to get an insight into my different interests from people that experience that specific interest. For example, I am interested in Public Relations as a possible major, so I spoke to my cousin鈥檚 friend who works as the head of Public Relations for the Pittsburgh Penguins. I was able to ask her different questions about the specifics of the job, and now I am more educated on that specific field.鈥
