Summit Street/Loop Road Intersection Closed Week of Spring Break

As part of the Summit Street: Building a Better Way improvement project, the Summit Street/Loop Road intersection north of Summit Street will be closed during spring break, from approximately 6 a.m. Monday, March 21, to the evening of Friday, March 25. The closing is being done during a time when traffic to and from the Kent Campus is greatly reduced.

Here are some things to keep in mind if you will be traveling that part of Summit Street on March 21-25.

  • Eastbound traffic will be maintained on Summit Street during the closure, but motorists will not be able to turn left at Loop Road.
  • The detour will be Johnston Drive through campus to Loop Road (see map).
  • There will be access to WKSU and the Child Development Center via Loop Road southbound.
  • All driveways on Loop Road will be open during this time

Please also be aware that workers will be trimming trees along Summit Street, between Lincoln Street and Morris Road, the week of March 21. There will be flaggers available to help direct traffic.

For more information, contact the city of Kent’s Division of Engineering at 330-678-8106. For construction updates, visit www.kent.edu/summitstreet.

The Â鶹ÊÓƵ Board of Trustees today established a comprehensive, national search to recruit and select the university’s 13th president.

The events of May 4, 1970, placed Â鶹ÊÓƵ in an international spotlight after a student protest against the Vietnam War and the presence of the Ohio National Guard ended in tragedy with four students losing their lives and nine others being wounded. From a perspective of nearly 50 years, Â鶹ÊÓƵ remembers the tragedy and leads a contemporary discussion and understanding of how the community, nation and world can benefit from understanding the profound impact of the event.
