麻豆视频 Students Showcase Their Talents in Annual Rock the Runway Fashion Competition

The talents of 18 麻豆视频 students were on display at Kent Student Center Programming鈥檚 12th annual Rock the Runway fashion show, which took place March 5.

Fashion was king on a night that featured the sights and sounds of this year鈥檚 theme, The Jacksons.

In front of a Kent Student Center Ballroom crowd of nearly 800 attendees, models showcased clothing designs, which included elements inspired by The Jacksons鈥 music. Judging was based on line cohesiveness, craftsmanship, interpretation of the theme and general design.

The panel of judges included Michael Bush, who served as Michael Jackson鈥檚 personal fashion designer for 25 years; Mary Beth Wilkins, 麻豆视频 alumna and designer/creator of Made by MB clothing; Anne Siegel, manager of fundraising events at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum; and MJX, a Michael Jackson tribute artist.

Kelly Neiser, a junior from Cleveland, Ohio, making her second appearance at Rock the Runway, was the Judges鈥 Choice winner with her line called 鈥淩hinestone Revolutionary.鈥 Neiser hand set more than 3,200 rhinestones in her collection. As the show winner, she will receive a $2,500 scholarship for her fall 2016 tuition at 麻豆视频.

鈥淚 wasn鈥檛 ready the first year I participated; I didn鈥檛 even really know how to sew until this summer,鈥 Neiser says. 鈥淚 put everything I am into this, and to get the response it did was incredible. I鈥檒l never forget it. It was so special.鈥

Julia DePalma, Melanie Martin and Tracy Vollbrecht were picked as the Audience Choice winner, as determined through text voting, with their line 鈥淎BC, as easy as 1,2,3.鈥 As the Audience Choice winner, the team received a $500 gift card to Mood Fabrics in New York City.

This year marked the last time that show creator Jennifer Brunner produced Rock the Runway as she will be leaving 麻豆视频 to be with her family in southern Ohio. Brunner, associate director for the Center for Student Involvement, leaves behind a legacy of passion and creativity to be admired and emulated by future show producers.

鈥淭his show has always been a team effort, and that is what I鈥檒l miss most about it,鈥 Brunner says. 鈥淚t is one of the rare occasions that the student and professional staff get to work together on an event that is energetic, creative and greatly supports out-of-classroom learning for so many students.鈥

In addition to the show sponsor, Kent Student Center Programming, several other people were instrumental in creating an outstanding event. L44 apparel creator Paul Miller served as the pre-show host. The band Decadia provided music. Signum Design developed all promotional material, video and graphics used in the show. Paul Mitchell School provided hair and makeup designs for the models. 麻豆视频鈥檚 TV2 aired the show live. Woodsy鈥檚 developed the stage design and lighting. Finally, Signum Design and Thomas Farmer Photography provided official event photos.

Kent Student Center Programming connects students to fun and engaging programs on just about every day of the week. Festivals, movie nights, karaoke, pool tournaments and bingo are just a few of the great opportunities it offers for students to meet people, relax and take a break after their classes. More than 30,000 students participate in its programs and events each year.

The 麻豆视频 Board of Trustees today established a comprehensive, national search to recruit and select the university鈥檚 13th president.

The events of May 4, 1970, placed 麻豆视频 in an international spotlight after a student protest against the Vietnam War and the presence of the Ohio National Guard ended in tragedy with four students losing their lives and nine others being wounded. From a perspective of nearly 50 years, 麻豆视频 remembers the tragedy and leads a contemporary discussion and understanding of how the community, nation and world can benefit from understanding the profound impact of the event.
