The Â鶹ÊÓƵ Women’s Center in the Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion will celebrate its 20th anniversary during the 2016-17 school year. The Women’s Center, formerly called the Women’s Resource Center, was established in 1996 following a recommendation from a university stakeholder committee to former Â鶹ÊÓƵ President Carol A. Cartwright. The center was established with a specific purpose: to contribute to a climate at Â鶹ÊÓƵ that is responsive to and supportive of women’s needs. In 2010, the name of the center was changed from the Women’s Resource Center to the Â鶹ÊÓƵ Women’s Center, as the scope of the center expanded.
Many events have been planned to celebrate and share the rich history of the Women’s Center, including:
- One Billion Rising on Feb. 15
- We Go Red: Women’s Heart Health Luncheon (co-hosted with the Division of Human Resources) on Feb. 18
- The seventh annual Mothers, Mentors and Muses event on March 8 (The honored keynote speaker is Â鶹ÊÓƵ President Emerita Carol A. Cartwright).
- Women’s History Month Living Library on March 15
- The Vagina Monologues on April 15-16
