Calling Ohio Artists, Writers, Performers and Makers for the Kent Creativity Festival

The Kent community invites you to submit your application to participate in the inaugural Kent Creativity Festival, to be held on Saturday, Sept. 24. This festival will provide an opportunity for people of all ages and skill levels to come together to create, share and explore the making of all forms of art. It is a collective effort by the city of Kent and Â鶹ÊÓƵ, including many organizations focused on arts and culture in our vibrant city.

The Kent Creativity Festival is a free event that will take place on the Lefton Esplanade between Rockwell Hall and downtown Kent. The event planning committee wants you to be a part of this unique event! Participants will be asked to prepare and lead interactive creative activities that will engage and inspire people to explore their own creativity, and participate in the joy and transformative power of making art and sharing it with others. A $250 stipend will be provided to those selected to be a part of this event. The application deadline is May 1, and selections will be made by July 1.

A few examples of interactive activities include:

  • Poetry: Create poems with a pre-established theme.
  • Painting on easels: Watch various artists paint or draw objects or elements from nature.
  • Drawing with the body: Draw on a white canvas using body movements and charcoal or pastels.

Whether your work could support these activities or be completely unique, you are encouraged to share your creativity and submit your proposal to be a part of this first-time event. For more information and to download the application, visit www.kent.edu/kcf. Applications can be submitted via email to kentcreativityfestival@gmail.com or regular mail to 300 Midway Drive, 204 Taylor Hall in Kent, OH 44242 by May 1.

The event planning committee also is seeking sponsors for the event. Any interested businesses, organizations or individuals interested in supporting this event should contact Ricardo Sepulveda at 330-672-0397 to find out how to make a tax-deductible contribution to the Kent Creativity Festival.

The Â鶹ÊÓƵ Board of Trustees today established a comprehensive, national search to recruit and select the university’s 13th president.

The events of May 4, 1970, placed Â鶹ÊÓƵ in an international spotlight after a student protest against the Vietnam War and the presence of the Ohio National Guard ended in tragedy with four students losing their lives and nine others being wounded. From a perspective of nearly 50 years, Â鶹ÊÓƵ remembers the tragedy and leads a contemporary discussion and understanding of how the community, nation and world can benefit from understanding the profound impact of the event.
