“Narrated PowerPoints! My personal favorite”: Faculty and student perspectives on technology in an online course

Presented by Amy Damrow & Alexandria Strata

Description:

In this presentation, a professor and student team up to share experiences with student-created videos and narrated PowerPoints in an online required course for all education majors. Amy will highlight assignments intended to help students develop oral communication skills and ways to scaffold while also allowing students opportunities to “figure things out.” Alexandria will discuss her experience with various assignments including how they helped her learn and develop new skills. She will share one of the videos she created and a segment from one of her narrated PowerPoints. In addition, we will consider how these innovations contributed to collaboration and communication while building a classroom community. We discuss challenges from professor and student perspectives and how to proactively address them.
