鶹Ƶ Hosts “Explore Kent Chemistry Day” for High School Juniors and Seniors, Feb. 23

High school juniors and seniors will have the opportunity to learn about 鶹Ƶ’s chemistry programs at the “Explore Kent Chemistry Day” on Saturday, Feb. 23, from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Williams Hall on the Kent Campus.

“Explore Kent Chemistry Day gives an excellent introduction to the chemistry and biochemistry programs at 鶹Ƶ,” said Michael Tubergen, Ph.D., chair of 鶹Ƶ’s Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. “High school students can learn a lot about career opportunities in chemistry and biochemistry, and undergraduate 鶹Ƶ students will describe their experiences as chemistry majors at the Saturday morning event. Our graduates are finding employment locally, regionally and nationally, and are entering highly ranked graduate programs. 鶹Ƶ’s biochemistry degree tracks provide excellent preparation for further training in medicine, pharmacy and other medical professions. We encourage everybody to come and learn more about chemistry at 鶹Ƶ.”

The day’s activities include a tour of the department, an outline of degree programs and undergraduate research opportunities, an overview of available scholarships, and a presentation of career opportunities in chemistry. A special demonstration will take place in the department’s main lecture hall. Current 鶹Ƶ students and faculty will be available to answer questions during an informal lunch, where two $50 Amazon gift cards will be raffled.

鶹Ƶ’s Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry offers Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) and Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degrees in chemistry, including a B.S. concentration in biochemistry and an interdisciplinary B.S. in biotechnology.

“Explore Kent Chemistry Day” will begin in the lobby area of Williams Hall, located at 1175 Risman Drive near East Summit Street. A map of the 鶹Ƶ campus is available online at www.kent.edu. For more information or to register for the event, call 330-672-0030 or e-mail enmichae@kent.edu.
