November 6 marks the beginning of I AM FIRST Week, a celebration of first generation students--students who are the first in their family to go to and/or graduate from a four year university.
鶹Ƶ is celebrating with a series of events throughout the week of Nov. 6. On Tuesday, Nov. 7, the College of Arts and Sciences will host an event in Bowman Hall Room 124 called “I am First Floats” from 2:00 p.m. till 4:30 p.m.
During this event, first generation students are invited to come and eat Insomnia cookies, drink soda floats and to get their photo taken with KSU's Flash mascot. Along with the free food, the first 100 students will receive a first generation t-shirt.
First generation students are also welcome to participate in the I AM FIRST award’s ceremony, where they can sign the I AM FIRST promise banner and hear student testimonials about being first generation students.
At this award ceremony, Dr. Mandy Munro-Stasiuk, Dean for the College of Arts and Sciences will speak on her experience as a first generation student.
