Theatre Auditions for Silent Sky on November 29 & 30

Silent Sky Auditions November 29 & 30 at 6 p.m. in the Fine Arts Theatre

The Â鶹ÊÓƵ at Stark Theatre has announced open auditions for the next theatrical production of the season, Silent Sky by Lauren Gunderson, and directed by Â鶹ÊÓƵ Stark Associate Professor of Theatre and Theatre Director Brian Newberg. Auditions are open to everyone, including students and community members. Â鶹ÊÓƵ Stark encourages diversity in its casting.

Based on the true story of Henrietta Leavitt, Silent Sky takes you on a journey in Leavitt’s shoes as a female astronomer at the Harvard Observatory in the early 1900s – a time when the ideas of women did not come to fruition until men accredited the theories for their own gain. Leavitt must learn to accommodate her love of science with her family responsibilities and her place as a woman in the early 20th century.

Auditions will be held on November 29 & 30 at 6 p.m. in the Fine Arts Theatre, 6000 Frank Avenue NW in Jackson Township. The campus is closed November 24 - 27 for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Roles are available for four women and one man. There are no roles for children in the production. Those auditioning may perform a prepared monologue, if they wish, and the director may also choose sides (selected scene excerpts) for some to perform. Performance dates are February 24 - 26 and March 3 - 5, 2017 at the Â鶹ÊÓƵ Stark Theatre. Rehearsals begin December 18 and break for the holiday on December 22, resuming January 3, and will occur five evenings a week until opening. Visit www.kent.edu/stark/theatre-auditions for more information about auditions for this production.

Scripts (and audition sides or scene excerpts used for the auditions) are available for perusal for periods up to 24 hours from the Fine Arts secretary (330-244-5151), Monday through Friday, during business hours (8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.). The campus will be closed December 23 - January 2 in observance of the holiday. Audition appointments are recommended, but not required. Scripts and audition sides will also be available in the reserve area of the Â鶹ÊÓƵ Stark Learning Center.
